I'm an academic coach and tutor teaching English, mathematics and philosophy to gifted students
worlwide.
I specialise in coaching students through the Oxbridge admissions process; and it's clear that
elite universities are now taking IGCSE results into account when ranking students.
An A* at Philosophy is therefore rapidly becoming an essential requirement for admissions to a top university.
Having been educated at both Cambridge and Oxford, and having also taught philosophy at Oxford, I'm intimately familiar
with the standard of English and critical thinking required of applicants.
If you're laying the foundations of your child's education, I hope this site contains the advice and information
you seek.

The question I'm most frequently asked is "How do I get an A* at Philosophy?". However, this looks
set to be replaced by "How do I get an A* with Distinction at Philosophy?", as exam standards steadily rise.
At the moment the new A* with Distinction is only offered in mathematics by the AQA examination board, but it's likely
that other examination boards will follow suit in other subjects.
At the heart of any programme of study to achieve an A* at Philosophy is a cycle of mock exam questions,
contextualised marking by an experienced tutor, and careful reflection on the tutor's comments.
I of course provide one-to-one
tutorials; principally to introduce new topics, or to discuss a piece of work that has not gone well. However,
the bulk of my coaching consists in setting and marking work.
